Attorney - Energy Transmission Siting

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an attorney in Albany, NY, to join their Energy, Environmental, and Utility Law Group. The role focuses on siting and permitting of electric transmission lines, electric distribution lines, and natural gas pipelines, with an emphasis on Article VII and Article VIII siting. This position involves advising clients on infrastructure projects, navigating permitting requirements, and representing stakeholders before regulatory agencies.

Duties

• Provide counsel on siting, permitting, and development of electric transmission lines and gas pipelines.
• Represent clients before the New York State Public Service Commission and other regulatory bodies.
• Draft and review applications, permits, and compliance filings under Article VII and related statutes.
• Conduct environmental and land use reviews under SEQRA.
• Advise on stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and risk management.
• Collaborate with engineers, consultants, and project managers for compliance.
• Provide litigation support in administrative hearings or disputes.
• Monitor evolving energy policies and advise clients on implications.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in New York State (or ability to obtain admission promptly).
• 3-7 years of experience in electric transmission and generation siting.
• Knowledge of gas pipeline siting is a plus.
• Strong legal writing, research, and advocacy skills.
• Experience with regulatory agencies and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to practice law in New York State.
