Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Attorney in Illinois. The ideal candidate will have over six years of experience in bankruptcy and insolvency matters, representing creditors and financial institutions in various proceedings.

Duties

  • Represent creditors, creditors' committees, and financial institutions in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy proceedings.
  • File and prosecute proofs of claim, motions for relief from the automatic stay, and objections to discharge or dischargeability.
  • Advise creditor clients on maximizing recoveries in reorganization and liquidation proceedings.
  • Handle preference and fraudulent transfer litigation, and adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court.
  • Represent financial institutions in enforcement of debt obligations and security interests.
  • Pursue collection actions, judgment enforcement, and post-judgment remedies.
  • Negotiate and document workout agreements and debt restructuring solutions.
  • Handle UCC Article 9 foreclosures and other secured party remedies.

 

Requirements

  • Command of litigation with a proven track record of managing matters independently.
  • Comfortable in courtroom settings, depositions, and negotiations.
  • Understanding of the interplay between bankruptcy courts, secured creditors, and distressed borrowers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Active bar license in Illinois (Wisconsin or multi-state a plus).

 

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

 

Certifications

  • Active bar license in Illinois.

  • Strong litigation and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic thinking in various legal forums.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
