A law firm seeks a Data Protection and Commercial Contracts Counsel in Milwaukee, WI. This role involves leading the firm's data protection strategy and assisting with commercial contracts to ensure compliance with relevant laws and ethical obligations.

Duties

  • Develop and maintain data protection strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise on data protection and AI legal developments.
  • Review and negotiate vendor and client contracts.
  • Support AI governance and monitor compliance with data protection policies.
  • Coordinate with Records Management on records retention policies.
  • Assist with client data protection audits and incident response.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts to mitigate risks.
  • Develop data protection training programs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data protection and privacy risk within a law firm or regulated industry.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. privacy and data processing laws.
  • Familiarity with GDPR and foreign data protection laws.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active bar license in state of residence and office location.
  • CIPP/US and CIPP/AIGP certifications preferred.

Skills

  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal requirements effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
