Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney with experience in handling Tort matters to join its growing office in Newark, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience and active licenses in both New Jersey and New York. Candidates with general liability experience are also encouraged to apply.

Duties

  • Provide initial analysis and develop case strategy.
  • Prepare and respond to discovery.
  • Take and defend depositions, draft motions, and attend hearings.
  • Explain legal options to clients and highlight possible outcomes or threats.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Negotiate, research, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • In good standing and able to practice law in New Jersey and New York.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and solid academic background.
  • Strong sense of urgency in problem-solving and meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable, attentive, and proactive.
  • Excellent communicator, negotiator, public speaker, and problem solver.
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented with a track record of meeting billable hours goals.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and effective.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to communicate well with staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; experience with iManage and/or OneDrive is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York.
