A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Employee Benefits Attorney to join its Buffalo office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in employee benefits law with 4 to 10 years of experience, particularly in ERISA and the management of various employee benefit plans. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of employee benefits issues, including retirement and welfare plans, while working in a collaborative and supportive environment. Remote work arrangements can be considered based on individual circumstances.

Duties:

  • Provide legal guidance to clients on the design, implementation, and compliance of employee benefit plans, including retirement, welfare, and fringe benefits.
  • Advise on the requirements and regulations related to ERISA, focusing on both regulatory compliance and operational issues.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review plan documents, amendments, and other employee benefits-related contracts.
  • Stay informed on the latest employee benefits regulations and compliance standards, providing clients with updates and strategic advice.
  • Manage complex client matters, ensuring efficient plan administration and identifying legal risks.
  • Foster and maintain client relationships, offering clear, proactive communication and exceptional service.
  • Handle issues related to employee benefits in corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate legal strategies for employee benefits into broader business plans.

Requirements:

  • 4 to 10 years of experience practicing employee benefits law, with a focus on ERISA and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in advising clients on the design, administration, and compliance of retirement, welfare, and fringe benefit plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex legal issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including the ability to explain technical legal concepts to non-experts.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters efficiently and handle deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong client service orientation, demonstrating initiative and responsiveness to client needs.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the state bar, with the ability to practice law in New York or eligibility for bar admission.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York (or eligibility for admission).

Skills:

  • Expertise in ERISA and employee benefits laws, including compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills related to employee benefit plans and related documents.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical abilities, particularly with employee benefits issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
