Labor and Employment Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Labor and Employment Attorney with over seven years of experience to join their team in Oakland, California. This role involves representing private and public entity employers in complex employment litigation and providing comprehensive legal services in labor and employment law.

Duties

• Represent employers in discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims.
• Handle FLSA and wage and hour claims, including class and collective actions.
• Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, and memoranda.
• Take and defend depositions and manage discovery activities.
• Draft EEOC position statements and DFEH responses.
• Provide advice on federal and state employment law compliance.
• Engage in labor negotiations and handle grievances and arbitrations.

Requirements

• 7+ years of substantive experience in employment litigation.
• Strong knowledge of California employment law.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership in the California State Bar.

Skills

• Strong work ethic and dedication to client service.
• Experience with trial or arbitration is desirable.
• Background in labor relations is advantageous.
