Job Overview

A law firm seeks a junior to mid-level associate to join the U.S. State and Local Tax (SALT) Practice in Washington, D.C. The role offers the opportunity to work with diverse clients across various industries, handling state and local tax controversies and multistate tax issues.

Duties

  • Represent clients in state and local tax controversies, including audits and judicial proceedings.
  • Handle multistate tax issues such as income, franchise, sales, and use tax.
  • Support and manage matters in state courts and before taxing authorities.
  • Draft legal documents related to tax disputes and litigation.
  • Assist in legislative and government relations matters.
  • Occasionally work on federal tax matters.

Requirements

  • Solid academic credentials from a top law school.
  • LLM in Taxation required.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in tax law, focusing on tax controversy or SALT.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Admission to one or more state bars is required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from a top law school.
  • LLM in Taxation.

Certifications

  • Admission to a state bar.
