Senior Litigation Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Litigation Attorney in Paramus, New Jersey. This role is ideal for an attorney with 8 to 10 years of litigation experience, ready to manage complex civil cases from inception through trial and appeal. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload, including environmental, labor, commercial, and public entity defense matters, while mentoring junior attorneys and developing case strategies.

Duties

• Independently manage complex civil litigation in New Jersey state and federal courts.
• Handle all litigation phases, including discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal.
• Serve as first or second-chair trial attorney in various proceedings.
• Develop case strategies for environmental litigation under federal and state statutes.
• Manage labor and employment litigation, including ERISA and discrimination cases.
• Oversee commercial litigation involving contract and business disputes.
• Conduct and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
• Draft and argue substantive motions in state and federal courts.
• Prepare and file appellate briefs in state and federal courts.
• Negotiate and draft settlement agreements; participate in mediations.
• Maintain client communication and provide strategic legal counsel.
• Mentor junior associates and supervise their work.

Requirements

• 8 to 10 years of substantive civil litigation experience.
• Demonstrated trial experience, including first-chair or significant second-chair roles.
• Experience in New Jersey state and federal courts.
• Proven track record of managing complex litigation matters.
• Experience with appellate practice and drafting appellate briefs.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
• Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
