This large Boston firm has a surprisingly good government and regulatory practice, with the added bonus that their attorneys do not have to split their work with Washington DC lawyers in the same practice. This is a firm made up of well-rounded but most certainly well-pedigreed attorneys who come off unusually polished and professional. Associates here are generally quite satisfied, if not a little put off by what at times can be a bit of a competitive environment, both inside and outside the office. The strengths are that associates generally know whether they are 'on track' to make partner, and work in an environment that is designed with the appropriate mentoring and support staff to help associate development and training along.1 2017-09-15 18:58:34

This firm is fairly large nationally, with a mid-sized Boston office. The practice in the Boston office is fairly similar to that of the firm nationwide: good labor and employment work, health care, and general corporate and securities work. The attorneys here do complain that they occasionally feel a bit like a franchise, not seeing a good deal of overall unity. Nonetheless, the Boston and New York offices are fairly well connected and together cover most major practice areas. The advantages here are practice areas that get high points for interest from associates. That being said, these practice areas, like employment defense, are not big revenue drivers. Therefore, the salaries here are decidedly less than the big firm market, although not below market in general.1 2018-07-16 17:39:30

Although this firm bills itself out as full service, it is in fact a well-diversified technology boutique. This medium-sized office is happy to handle corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, and technology transactions, but generally only for clients who originally came to the firm for the 'pure' intellectual property practice--patent prosecution, litigation, and trademark work. With more non-specialists than most intellectual property firms, the environment here is much more entrepreneurial and business minded than some practices we've seen. And, despite an institutional mentoring program, associates here are trained with early responsibility and the need for each attorney to work on large client files, regardless of that attorney's practice area. Good salary and down to earth partners have kept associates here since the days of their summer clerkship--a pretty remarkable feat.1 2018-06-27 00:51:33
