Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Business Litigation Associate to join its Columbia, South Carolina office. This role offers the chance to collaborate with seasoned trial lawyers on complex commercial disputes, providing an opportunity to hone litigation skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Duties

  • Handle a variety of business and commercial disputes, including breach of contract and business torts.
  • Collaborate with partners and clients on case strategy, discovery, and motion practice.
  • Participate actively in depositions, hearings, and other court proceedings.
  • Assist in managing litigation teams and coordinating multi-party or multi-jurisdictional matters.
  • Engage in business development and client service initiatives as experience grows.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in complex business or commercial litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedure and litigation strategy in state and federal courts.
  • Experience in legal research, drafting motions and briefs, and managing discovery.
  • Proficiency in preparing deposition outlines and exhibits, and taking and defending depositions.
  • Preference for candidates with courtroom experience, including motion hearings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong academic credentials; judicial clerkship experience is a plus.
  • Must be licensed in South Carolina or eligible for immediate admission.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in South Carolina.

Skills

  • Ability to draft persuasive pleadings and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in managing and coordinating discovery, including e-discovery.
