A law firm is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Attorney to join its prestigious matrimonial practice in New York City. This boutique firm specializes in matrimonial and family law, offering a supportive environment for professional growth. The role is perfect for candidates with a background in family law and a strong desire to work with Chinese-speaking clients, handling both domestic and international matters.

Duties:

  • Manage a caseload focused primarily on matrimonial and family law cases.
  • Represent clients in domestic and international family law matters, with an emphasis on Chinese-speaking clients.
  • Draft legal documents, including petitions, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Provide expert legal advice and strategic counsel to clients.
  • Negotiate settlements and advocate for clients in court when necessary.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, particularly within the Chinese-speaking community.
  • Stay current with relevant matrimonial law trends, including domestic and international aspects.

Requirements:

  • Fluency in Mandarin.
  • Admission to practice law in New York State.
  • Professional licensing in China is highly preferred.
  • 1-6 years of experience, ideally in matrimonial or family law.
  • Prior experience or interest in working with Chinese-speaking clients, particularly in the matrimonial context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on building client relationships.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • A book of business, particularly in the Chinese-speaking markets, is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • New York State Bar Admission.
  • Professional license in China (preferred).

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
  • Expertise in matrimonial law, including but not limited to divorce, custody, and asset distribution.
  • Ability to handle complex and sensitive family law matters.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting legal documents.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to advocate effectively in family law cases.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
