Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Partner Level Tax Attorney in Lexington, KY. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive transaction tax counsel to middle market and large business clients, including high-net-worth families, corporations, and partnerships, both domestically and internationally.

Duties

  • Provide transaction tax counsel to diverse clients.
  • Advocate for clients before the IRS and state/local taxing authorities.
  • Review and draft transaction documents from a tax perspective.
  • Stay informed on federal corporate, pass-through, trust, and international tax rules.
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, and other professionals.
  • Mentor associates and contribute to the corporate tax practice group.
  • Generate at least 50% of billable work independently.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school; LL.M in tax or MST preferred.
  • Barred in the state of the primary office location.
  • 8-10 years of experience in corporate and international tax matters.
  • Understanding of Subchapter C, partnership, and international tax provisions.
  • Exceptional analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work across major offices of the firm.
  • Experience with complex trusts and estates is a plus.
  • Prior experience in AM 100/200 or major accounting firms preferred.
  • CPA certification and experience in public accounting or IRS is advantageous.
  • Ability to bring 50% of portables in the range of $400k to $600k is desirable.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • LL.M in tax or MST preferred

Certifications

  • Bar admission in the state of primary office location
  • CPA certification is a significant advantage
