Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Private Client International Trusts & Estates Planning Associate with a minimum of 4 years of experience in international estate planning for high-net-worth individuals and companies. This position is based in Hartford, CT. The ideal candidate will have experience in cross-border tax planning and advising U.S. and non-U.S. taxpayers on wealth management structures accommodating multi-jurisdictional tax and legal considerations.

Duties

  • Advise on international estate planning for high-net-worth clients.
  • Develop wealth management structures for multi-jurisdictional tax considerations.
  • Assist with foreign trusts and pre-immigration planning.
  • Plan for U.S. property purchases by non-U.S. persons.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and reporting obligations for overseas interests.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in international estate planning.
  • Strong technical, professional, and client service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities and ability to work independently.
  • Member in good standing in the jurisdiction of practice.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction.

Skills

  • Expertise in cross-border tax planning.
  • Experience with foreign trusts and expatriation planning.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions for client needs.

This large, full-service firm is very women-oriented, and it has created many benefits to appeal particularly to women, including flexible work arrangements and 12-week paid maternity leave. There is a business casual dress code, but associates are expected to keep professional clothing at the office in case of short notice meetings. All associates are expected to spend at least 50 hours annually on pro bono, and this is part of their billable hour expectation of 1800.
