Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate with 4-6 years of experience to join its National Security and Global Trade practice in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customs and import compliance, advising clients on U.S. and multinational trade regulatory matters. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-impact matters for global clients in a collaborative environment.

Duties

  • Advise clients on U.S. customs laws and regulations, including classification, valuation, and country of origin.
  • Counsel on import compliance programs and tariff mitigation strategies.
  • Represent clients in matters before U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
  • Litigate customs cases at the Court of International Trade.
  • Draft memoranda, submissions, and compliance policies.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and thought leadership.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in national security and global trade.
  • Experience with customs and import compliance.
  • Prior experience at an AmLaw firm, boutique trade firm, or government agency preferred.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which you are applying.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and good business judgment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
