ERISA / Employee Benefits Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Saint Louis, MO, is actively seeking a skilled associate attorney with specialized knowledge in ERISA and employee benefits law. The ideal candidate will bring meaningful experience in advising clients on complex transactional and regulatory matters concerning employee benefit plans, executive compensation, and related tax considerations. Duties:

  • Advise business clients on matters involving ERISA and the taxation of employee benefit plans

  • Support transactions involving Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), including implementation and ongoing compliance

  • Draft and review executive compensation arrangements, including non-qualified deferred compensation plans and employment agreements

  • Interpret and apply laws governing welfare benefits and retirement plans

  • Coordinate with clients, advisors, and internal teams to ensure regulatory compliance and deliver tailored legal solutions

  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support complex matters

  • Prepare and deliver client communications, memoranda, and other work products with precision and professionalism

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a law firm setting with a focus on transactional ERISA, executive compensation, and benefits matters

  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Internal Revenue Code and ERISA regulatory framework

  • Familiarity with ESOPs, including their structure, operation, and legal requirements, is strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Admission to the bar and an active license to practice law in the relevant state (MO preferred or ability to obtain promptly)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction (Saint Louis, MO, or eligibility for admission)
