Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly experienced environmental attorney to join their team in Syracuse, NY. This role offers a hybrid work opportunity and involves advising clients on environmental regulatory compliance and commercial real estate transactions. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support large-scale development projects.

Duties

• Advise clients on federal and state environmental regulations.
• Represent clients in environmental permitting and compliance matters.
• Structure, negotiate, and close complex real estate transactions.
• Lead environmental due diligence for M&A and project finance.
• Draft and negotiate environmental provisions in agreements.
• Manage permitting processes for various infrastructure projects.
• Support remediation and risk mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate environmental risks.
• Review and assess third-party environmental reports.
• Counsel on compliance with environmental and land use laws.
• Analyze title and survey documents for environmental restrictions.
• Offer strategic insight on energy transition initiatives.
• Collaborate on real estate, energy, and infrastructure projects.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in U.S. environmental law.
• Admission to New York State Bar; other states beneficial.
• Extensive involvement with permitting and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with energy, infrastructure, or large-scale projects.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding of environmental risk and legal frameworks.
• Portable book of business is a plus.
• Knowledge of NEPA, CEQA, CERCLA, RCRA, and ESA.
• Expertise in drafting complex environmental contracts.
• Proficiency in analyzing technical environmental data.
• Ability to manage legal timelines and coordinate with agencies.
• Familiarity with carbon-related legal frameworks.
• Excellent communication and client service skills.

Education

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to New York State Bar (required).
