Patent Attorney - Associate

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a patent attorney associate with expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science to join their team in Summit, NJ. The role involves engaging in patent preparation and prosecution, trademark searching and filing, and drafting license agreements.

Duties

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications.
• Conduct trademark searches and filings.
• Draft and negotiate license agreements.
• Counsel clients on enforcement and avoidance of competitor rights.
• Prepare non-infringement and invalidity opinion letters.
• Advise clients on designing around competitor patents.

Requirements

• Advanced degree preferred; Bachelor's considered for exceptional candidates.
• Industry experience desired.
• Graduated from a top ABA-accredited law school.
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and admission to practice law in at least one state, preferably NJ and/or NY.
• Minimum of 2+ years of IP experience in-house or with a law firm.
• Experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and trademark matters.

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.)

Certifications

• Registered with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO)
