Job Overview
A law firm seeks an experienced Patent Prosecution Of Counsel in Summit, NJ, with expertise in software, artificial intelligence, and related technologies. The candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience and the ability to manage matters independently while collaborating with inventors, startups, and corporate clients.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications involving software, AI, and related technologies.
  • Conduct inventor interviews and develop patent strategies.
  • Prepare provisional, nonprovisional, continuation, divisional, and international applications.
  • Respond to Office Actions under Sections 101, 102, 103, and 112.
  • Conduct examiner interviews and advise clients on claim scope and patentability.
  • Coordinate foreign prosecution and manage deadlines and budgets.
  • Assist with prior-art, freedom-to-operate, and patent landscape analyses.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Registration with the USPTO.
  • At least five years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • Significant experience with software-related inventions.
  • Experience with AI or machine learning technologies.
  • Strong legal, technical, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide responsive client service.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree.

Certifications

  • Active membership in a U.S. state bar.
  • USPTO registration.
