Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney in Houston, TX, to manage litigated matters with a focus on defensive litigation involving residential real estate, title to real property, mortgages, and foreclosure. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral advocacy skills and experience in all aspects of civil litigation.

Duties

  • Manage all aspects of contested litigation related to mortgage servicing and foreclosure.
  • Handle pre-litigation cases and assist with clearing title to real property.
  • Prepare case analyses and advise clients on strategies.
  • Draft court pleadings and motions.
  • Conduct discovery, including taking and defending depositions.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and make court appearances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Member of the California state bar, maintaining all necessary licensing and continuing legal education requirements.
  • 2-8 years of litigation experience in real estate or mortgage servicing preferred.
  • Ability to consistently bill 1920 hours per year.
  • Knowledge of foreclosure process and requirements preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Juris Doctorate

Certifications

  • California State Bar Membership

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with rules of evidence and introducing evidence.
  • Knowledge of consumer protection statutes such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act preferred.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a large caseload.
