Job Overview:
A nationally respected law firm is seeking a seasoned Corporate Aviation Of Counsel to join its Business and Transactions group. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of experience handling high-value, complex corporate aviation transactions. This includes aircraft acquisitions, sales, leasing, financing, regulatory compliance, and operational structuring. 

Location:

  • Minneapolis, MN

Duties:

  • Act as lead counsel in aircraft acquisitions, leasing, financing, and cross-border transactions

  • Advise clients on federal, state, and local tax issues related to aircraft ownership and operations

  • Provide guidance on FAA compliance and aviation regulatory requirements

  • Structure deals for commercial airlines, corporate fleets, and high-net-worth individuals

  • Draft and negotiate transaction documents including purchase agreements, lease contracts, and service arrangements

  • Address issues involving aircraft customization, maintenance, and operations

  • Represent a diverse client base, including:

    • U.S. and international airlines

    • Corporate and private aircraft owners

    • Financial institutions and leasing companies

    • Aviation manufacturers and suppliers

  • Manage client relationships and handle matters independently

  • Contribute to firm-wide aviation strategy and client development initiatives

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate aviation transactions

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage sophisticated client matters

  • In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations and aviation-related tax planning

  • Experience with both general and large aircraft (e.g., Boeing 747-800, Boeing 787 VIP)

  • Active bar license in the state of the desired office location

  • Existing client base or portable book of business is a strong plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active and in-good-standing bar membership in the jurisdiction corresponding to the chosen office

Skills:

  • Mastery of corporate aviation regulatory and transactional law

  • Advanced drafting and negotiation skills

  • Strong client advisory and communication skills

  • Ability to manage complex, multijurisdictional legal matters

  • Tax structuring acumen for aviation transactions

  • Attention to detail and high-level organization

  • Business development capability and entrepreneurial mindset
