Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Immigration Litigation Attorney to join its legal team in Newark, NJ. This full-time position requires a presence in the office three days a week and focuses on federal district court litigation of immigration cases. The attorney will handle habeas corpus petitions, lawsuits for injunctive relief, and appeals of denied applications, among other responsibilities.

Duties

  • Manage own caseload while meeting case progression benchmarks.
  • Conduct client consultations for prospective new cases.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and fellow attorneys for seamless case handling.
  • Participate in firm committees to contribute to operations and success.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis for immigration law cases.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents and correspondence with precision.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients throughout the immigration process.
  • Lead and manage multiple case files with strong organizational skills.
  • Stay updated on evolving immigration laws and policies.

Requirements

  • Active bar membership.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in immigration litigation in federal district court.
  • Experience in immigration law or federal litigation.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • High attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting thorough legal research.
  • Willingness to travel within the United States for court hearings or conferences.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

  • Active bar membership.

Skills

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages preferred.
  • Experience in specific immigration law specialties is a plus.
