Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Litigation Support Attorney to join its team in Washington, District of Columbia. This role focuses on supporting complex litigation at both trial and appellate levels, emphasizing procedural execution and quality control. The position is ideal for an attorney who excels in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and prefers litigation support over primary case ownership.

Duties

  • Coordinate and assign litigation support tasks to paralegals and legal assistants.
  • Mentor and train legal support staff to enhance litigation skills and procedural knowledge.
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Oversee pretrial filings and manage trial transcripts and exhibits.
  • Draft, review, and organize legal documents using Microsoft Word and CM/ECF.
  • Conduct legal and factual research using Westlaw and other sources.
  • Perform cite-checking and quality control of legal documents.
  • Organize and maintain case files and related documents.
  • Implement organizational systems for case calendars and litigation materials.
  • Communicate with courts, outside counsel, clients, and vendors as needed.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to improve litigation support workflows.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of federal and state litigation procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in legal research and Bluebook citation standards.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train legal support staff.
  • Effective in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Education

  • JD or LL.B. required; LL.M. acceptable with at least 10 years of experience.

Certifications

  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar required; active status preferred.

Skills

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience with CM/ECF, PACER, Westlaw, and the Bluebook.
