Job Overview

Multiple firms across the United States — including municipal law boutiques, public-law practices, regional firms, and Am Law groups — are actively seeking Municipal Law Transactional Attorneys with 1–10+ years of experience.
Cities, counties, school districts, and public agencies are facing increasingly complex regulatory, development, and governance challenges, and firms are expanding their public agency counseling teams nationwide.

If you have experience advising public entities on matters such as:

  • Land use, zoning, CEQA/NEPA, and planning

  • Public employment and labor compliance

  • Brown Act, Public Records Act, and ethics laws

  • Public contracts, procurement, and construction issues

  • Government governance, ordinances, and resolutions

  • Real estate transactions involving public land

  • Open-meeting compliance for boards, councils, and commissions

  • Education law or special district work

Duties

  • Advise cities, counties, school districts, and public agencies on daily governance and compliance issues.

  • Counsel clients on CEQA/NEPA, zoning, land use, planning, and development matters.

  • Review, draft, and interpret public contracts, procurement documents, and construction-related agreements.

  • Ensure compliance with Brown Act, Public Records Act, conflict-of-interest rules, and ethics laws.

  • Draft ordinances, resolutions, policies, and agency governance materials.

  • Support real estate and development matters involving public property.

  • Provide open-meeting counsel to boards, commissions, and elected bodies.

Requirements

  • 1–10+ years of municipal, public agency, land use, or related experience.

  • Familiarity with CEQA/NEPA, Brown Act, or public-sector governance.

  • Strong client-counseling, communication, and advisory skills.

  • Experience with public contracts, employment issues, or real estate matters is helpful.

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
