Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to oversee and support settlement operations across all practice areas in San Diego, CA. This remote position requires candidates to be based in and licensed to practice law in California. The role involves standardizing settlement processes, advising on compliance, and leading the settlement team to ensure ethical and consistent handling of settlements.

Duties

  • Oversee and support the firm's settlement function across all practice areas.
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor the settlement team, establishing clear workflows and best practices.
  • Standardize settlement processes, including documentation and client communication protocols.
  • Draft, review, and approve settlement agreements and related documents.
  • Advise on client trust accounts, settlement funds, and distribution procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with state laws, court rules, and ethical obligations.
  • Monitor implementation of settlement terms and contractual obligations.
  • Provide guidance on settlement strategy and risk management.
  • Communicate with clients regarding settlement processes and timelines.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to improve processes and adopt legal technologies.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in California.
  • 7+ years of litigation experience with exposure to settlement processes.
  • Experience in settlement administration and trust accounting preferred.
  • Management or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of professional responsibility rules related to client funds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe; familiarity with legal tools and systems.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in California.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Familiarity with legal tools such as ShareFile, PACER, and Lexis.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
