Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Patent Agent/Technical Advisor to join its patent counseling and prosecution practice in New York, NY. The ideal candidate will possess industry experience and a degree in material, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering.

Duties

  • Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent and scientific papers to assist attorneys in prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.

Requirements

  • Superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in mechanical and/or biomedical engineering.
  • Initiative, fast learner, and ability to work well with others.
  • Registered US patent agent or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

Education

  • Degree in material, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (or related field).
  • Advanced degree is a plus.

Certifications

  • Registered US patent agent or eligibility for USPTO registration.

Skills

  • Technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in relevant engineering fields.
