Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with semiconductor experience to join its Intellectual Property team in multiple locations. This role involves preparing draft patent applications and responses to communications from the USPTO, assisting attorneys in delivering quality legal services efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a technical background relevant to semiconductor design and processing and at least three years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.

Duties

  • Prepare draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
  • Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
  • Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and provide reports to attorneys.
  • Act as liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
  • Advise attorneys on technologies and investigate as needed.
  • Organize, analyze, and summarize documents.
  • Communicate with staff, clients, and PTO personnel.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
  • Identify and solve complex patent issues.
  • Provide guidance to legal support staff.
  • Stay updated on technology trends and make recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material engineering, physics, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
  • Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of time management and project management strategies.
  • Ability to travel as needed for client matters.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant technical field.

Certifications

  • USPTO registration preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to analyze and interpret research findings.
  • Operational guidance and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of patent documentation standards.
  • Independent judgment and confidentiality management.
  • Proficiency in various software packages.
