Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Patent Agent with a strong background in chemistry or molecular biology to join their Intellectual Property practice in San Diego, CA. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with attorneys, clients, and inventors in a dynamic environment, focusing on prosecuting patents in the therapeutics space.

Duties

  • Draft high-quality patent applications and respond to USPTO office actions.
  • Conduct prior art, FTO, and patent landscape analyses.
  • Collaborate with clients and inventors to align IP strategy with business goals.
  • Coordinate with foreign counsel for global prosecution efforts.
  • Stay current with patent law developments and emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in chemistry or related life sciences; biology backgrounds considered with relevant experience.
  • Admission to practice before the USPTO.
  • Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience in the therapeutics space.
  • Solid understanding of patent strategy for life science companies.
  • Experience with portfolio management, client counseling, and FTO analysis is preferred.

Education

  • Advanced degree in chemistry or related life sciences.

Certifications

  • Admission to practice before the USPTO.

Skills
