Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Patent Agent/Advisor to join its patent counseling and prosecution practice in San Diego. The ideal candidate will possess industry experience and a degree in material, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering. This role requires a broad understanding of chemical engineering and material science.

Duties

  • Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent and scientific papers to assist attorneys in prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.

Requirements

  • At least one year of law firm experience.
  • Superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Initiative, fast learning ability, and teamwork skills.
  • Registered US patent agent or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

Education

  • Degree in material, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (or related field).
  • Advanced degree is a plus.

Certifications

  • Registered US patent agent or eligibility for USPTO registration exam.

Skills

  • Broad scientific knowledge in mechanical and/or biomedical engineering.
