A law firm in New York City is seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate Attorney to join its Real Estate Finance & Lending Practice Group. This position focuses on representing financial institutions in the structuring, negotiation, and closing of multifamily loan transactions secured by properties across the United States. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial real estate finance, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex lending transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lender’s counsel in the execution of multifamily loan originations, ensuring compliance with financial institution requirements.
  • Lead and assist in pre-closing and closing processes, including reviewing due diligence materials and coordinating with borrowers, title companies, surveyors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review loan agreements and ancillary documentation.
  • Conduct title and survey reviews, identifying and resolving issues related to property ownership, encumbrances, and legal compliance.
  • Analyze and summarize commercial lease agreements, providing key insights through detailed abstracts.
  • Engage in correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, and third-party vendors to facilitate seamless transactions.
  • Handle additional legal tasks throughout the real estate financing lifecycle, ensuring accuracy and efficiency at every stage.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A minimum of four years of experience handling commercial real estate finance matters.
  • Proficiency in multifamily agency lending, particularly transactions involving government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience working with document management systems in a legal setting.
  • Strong legal writing, negotiation, and contract interpretation skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and engage with clients professionally.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility to practice in New York.

Preferred Expertise:

  • Familiarity with affordable housing finance, public-private partnerships, or community development initiatives.
  • Background in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lending platforms is an advantage but not required.
