Job Overview:
A national law firm is seeking an experienced Corporate Aviation Of Counsel to join its Business and Transactions practice group. This position focuses on managing sophisticated aircraft transactions and advising a global client base that includes commercial airlines, leasing entities, financial institutions, and high-net-worth individuals. The ideal candidate will have more than 10 years of relevant legal experience, including independent client advising. 

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on the acquisition, sale, leasing, and financing of commercial and business aircraft

  • Handle cross-border and domestic aircraft transactions

  • Provide legal counsel on federal, state, and local tax implications related to aviation deals

  • Navigate FAA regulatory compliance and operational structuring

  • Represent a broad range of clients including:

    • U.S. and international airlines

    • Corporate aircraft owners

    • High-net-worth individuals

    • Leasing and finance companies

    • Aviation industry suppliers

  • Draft and negotiate complex contracts for aircraft transactions and related services

  • Address issues related to aircraft completion, maintenance, and customization

  • Act as lead or principal counsel on significant aviation matters

  • Independently manage client relationships and provide strategic legal solutions

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate aviation law and transactions

  • Ability to independently advise clients and manage complex matters

  • Demonstrated experience with aircraft acquisition, leasing, and regulatory compliance

  • Active license to practice law in the jurisdiction corresponding to the selected office

  • Strong client communication and business development skills

  • Existing client base or book of business is a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in one of the states corresponding to the listed office locations

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of corporate aviation law and FAA regulations

  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills

  • Ability to manage multifaceted transactions across jurisdictions

  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical and business judgment

  • Excellent client service and communication abilities

  • Capability to handle high-touch, complex matters with discretion and precision
