Civil Litigation Attorney

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Civil Litigation Attorney for its Woodbury, NY office. This role offers the chance to work with seasoned litigators on complex professional liability cases in a dynamic environment. The position provides hands-on experience, client interaction, and mentorship while representing professionals, businesses, and insurers in diverse litigation matters.

Duties

• Handle all phases of professional liability defense litigation from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, legal memoranda, and other litigation-related documents.
• Conduct legal research, assist with litigation strategy, and case analysis.
• Manage discovery, prepare for, and attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial preparation.
• Communicate directly with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, and witnesses while providing regular case updates and strategic guidance.
• Collaborate closely with attorneys across offices and practice groups on complex litigation matters.
• Provide proactive case management and client reporting.

Requirements

• Admission to practice in New York required.
• 2-6 years of litigation and/or professional liability defense experience.
• Strong writing, research, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment.
• Strong organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.

Skills

• Experience in professional liability defense litigation.
• Knowledge of Errors & Omissions (E&O) claims.
• Experience with legal malpractice, accounting malpractice, insurance broker liability, or other professional liability matters.
• Experience handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances.
• Experience working with insurers and insured professionals.
