A law firm seeks a skilled and driven Environmental Litigation Attorney to join its Chicago-based team. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful cases involving environmental enforcement and disputes. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in environmental law, strong litigation skills, and a passion for addressing complex environmental challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in environmental enforcement actions, including defending against allegations made by federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Manage litigation related to key federal environmental regulations, such as handling cases under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • Prosecute or defend disputes between private parties concerning contaminated properties, including negotiation and resolution strategies.
  • Develop and execute case strategies, including research, discovery, and drafting motions and briefs.
  • Work closely with clients to provide strategic counsel on compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

Position Requirements

  • Experience: 2–8 years of legal practice, strongly focusing on environmental litigation or related areas.
  • Knowledge Base: Comprehensive understanding of environmental statutes, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, CERCLA, and RCRA.
  • Admission: Must hold an active license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Skills: Exceptional legal writing and research capabilities and strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois (required).
