Associate Attorney - General Litigation

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join its general litigation practice in Chicago, IL. This position offers substantial hands-on litigation experience. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing cases, drafting motions, and appearing in court, while working both independently and collaboratively.

Duties

• Independently manage a diverse litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
• Draft, review, and respond to pleadings, motions, and discovery.
• Conduct fact and expert depositions.
• Prepare and argue motions in local court.
• Assist with trial strategy, preparation, and courtroom support.
• Investigate case facts, assess exposure, and develop case strategies.
• Prepare witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial.
• Attend court hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
• Maintain organized case files and accurate time records.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• 4-8 years of general litigation experience, preferably in Cook County.
• Environmental litigation experience is a plus.
• Admission to the Illinois Bar.
• Experience with depositions and motion practice.
• Prior lead experience in significant depositions, hearings, or case management preferred.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines independently.
• Strong communication skills and a client-focused work style.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient.

Education

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the Illinois Bar.
