Removal Defense Immigration Attorney

Job Overview:
A San Francisco-based law firm is seeking a dedicated immigration attorney with demonstrated experience in removal defense and related areas of law. This role involves managing a varied and complex caseload in a collaborative, advocacy-driven environment. The attorney will work on high-impact immigration matters, including litigation and administrative proceedings, with a strong focus on defending immigrant rights in diverse legal forums. This position supports hybrid work but prioritizes regular in-person collaboration.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in removal defense cases before immigration courts and related authorities

  • Prepare legal briefs, motions, and filings for a variety of immigration proceedings

  • Handle federal litigation matters in district and appellate courts

  • Participate in legal strategy meetings with other attorneys and staff

  • Provide legal analysis on cases involving the intersection of immigration and criminal law

  • Engage with USCIS, ICE, CBP, and the Board of Immigration Appeals

  • Contribute to the firm’s broader litigation efforts defending immigrant rights

  • Maintain accurate records and meet internal deadlines

  • Collaborate in advocacy efforts focused on civil and immigrant rights

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience practicing immigration law

  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred; other language proficiencies will be considered

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters independently

  • Strong legal writing and research capabilities

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational habits

  • Genuine interest in immigrant rights and public interest law

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license with a U.S. state bar in good standing

Skills:

  • Litigation experience in immigration and/or federal court settings

  • Ability to manage high-volume caseloads under time-sensitive conditions

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and document management systems

  • Team-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills
