Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Privacy Counsel in Washington, D.C. to join their Legal Risk Management team. This role will serve as the firm's expert on privacy-related issues, overseeing privacy policies, advising on compliance with U.S. and international privacy laws, and managing privacy risks across all business functions.

Duties

  • Serve as the primary contact for privacy issues, including HIPAA, CCPA, and GDPR.
  • Review and draft privacy provisions in client and vendor agreements.
  • Manage client-driven privacy assessments and audits.
  • Identify privacy risks and develop corrective action plans.
  • Oversee the firm's privacy program and ensure compliance with data retention standards.
  • Support HR with privacy considerations for employee and candidate data.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and support audits and data incident responses.
  • Advise on privacy risks associated with new technologies and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership in good standing.
  • 5-6 years of dedicated privacy experience, including U.S. and international frameworks.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating privacy provisions.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

  • Professional certifications in privacy (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) preferred.

Skills

  • Strong Outlook, Excel, and Word skills.
  • Effective analytical and logical reasoning abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
