Job Overview

A respected law firm is seeking a dedicated and skilled Family Law Litigation Attorney to handle complex and emotionally charged cases involving child custody, divorce, DHR defense, and adoption. The ideal candidate will possess strong courtroom presence, superior legal research skills, and a proven ability to manage a heavy caseload with efficiency and empathy. This role is best suited for an attorney who can lead cases from initial client contact to trial and post-judgment proceedings, demonstrating high ethical standards, emotional intelligence, and legal acumen.

Duties

  • Represent clients in contested family law cases, including trials, mediations, and hearings

  • Manage all aspects of litigation including pleadings, discovery, depositions, and motion practice

  • Conduct strategy meetings and assign tasks to legal staff with clear timelines

  • Lead and participate in formal mediations

  • Engage in legal research and writing, including appellate-level briefs

  • Develop case strategies grounded in current case law and procedural rules

  • Deliver confident courtroom representation and client advocacy

  • Utilize legal technologies and cloud-based case management systems

  • Contribute to a collaborative and fast-paced team environment

Requirements

  • Minimum experience as lead counsel in:

    • 10 contested family law trials

    • 5 party depositions (family law context)

    • 3 formal mediations lasting at least half a day

    • 3 major legal research and writing projects, including appellate work

  • Familiarity with managing complex case workflows and production targets

  • Availability for occasional work outside standard hours (evenings/weekends)

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and strict deadlines

  • Proficiency with technology including legal research databases and document management systems

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in Alabama

  • In good standing with the Alabama State Bar

Skills
