Job Title: Probate/Estate Planning Of Counsel/Senior Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm in Fairfax, VA, is seeking a seasoned Estate Planning & Probate Attorney to support its trusts and estates practice. This opportunity is ideal for a professional with deep probate and fiduciary litigation experience who is seeking a flexible, hybrid schedule in a collegial and award-winning work environment. The position may be structured as full-time or part-time, and will involve a mix of estate planning, probate, and trust administration matters, including the supervision of junior attorneys or staff.

Duties:

  • Draft and review estate planning instruments, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives

  • Manage and administer probate matters under Virginia law

  • Represent clients in probate-related disputes, including will contests, fiduciary misconduct, and capacity or undue influence claims

  • Advise clients on guardianship and conservatorship matters

  • Oversee and mentor associates and paralegals on estate matters

  • Maintain proactive and thoughtful communication with clients on estate planning goals

  • Navigate filings and interactions with the Office of the Commissioner of Accounts

  • Coordinate complex estate and trust administration issues

  • Utilize remote legal technologies effectively to deliver client services

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Virginia probate practice

  • Prior experience working within a law firm a or commissioner of accounts setting

  • Proven litigation experience in estate or fiduciary-related disputes

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a caseload and meet deadlines

  • Strong organizational capabilities and attention to detail

  • Comfort with hybrid or remote work arrangements and relevant tools

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia

  • Licensure in Maryland and/or Washington, D.C. is a plus

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Skilled in client counseling and relationship-building

  • Effective supervision of legal support staff and junior attorneys

  • Judgment, discretion, and integrity in handling sensitive client information

  • Adaptability to virtual office technologies and collaborative remote work
