Job Overview

A law firm seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join its federal litigation practice in Mineola, NY. This role offers the opportunity to manage sophisticated litigation matters in federal court, work directly with clients, and assume significant responsibility within a dynamic legal environment.

Duties

  • Handle all phases of federal litigation, including case assessment, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
  • Draft complaints, answers, motions, briefs, memoranda of law, and other litigation-related documents.
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategy.
  • Manage written discovery, document review, and e-discovery.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Appear before federal courts for conferences, hearings, oral arguments, mediations, and trials.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses.
  • Collaborate with partners and other attorneys on complex litigation matters.
  • Maintain case files and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission in good standing with the New York State Bar.
  • Admission to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of litigation experience.
  • Experience handling matters in federal court strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with legal research, motion practice, and discovery.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational and case management abilities.
  • Experience taking or defending depositions is preferred.
  • Trial experience is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active admission in good standing with the New York State Bar.
  • Admission to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
