Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Real Estate Tax Attorney for its Chicago, IL office. The successful candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in property tax appeals, particularly with the Cook/Collar County Assessor Offices, the Cook County Board of Review, and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board. This role requires a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit, with a focus on learning and development. Candidates must be licensed in Illinois and possess strong writing and analytical skills.

Duties

  • Administer property tax appeals, preparing and filing complaints and evidence.
  • Analyze properties and draft briefs for various property types.
  • Review and apply assessment records and histories.
  • Support tax objection cases in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
  • Communicate with clients regarding appeals and recommendations.
  • Liaise with county representatives on hearings and settlements.
  • Maintain departmental calendar and docketing.
  • Assist with tax incentive and exemption applications.
  • Support real estate tax proration matters.
  • Participate in Continuing Legal Education (CLE) trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
