Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level Associate to join their team in Syosset, NY. The position involves working within the Monitoring/Appellate Practice Group, focusing on high exposure cases across various practice areas in both State and Federal Court. The role offers opportunities for professional development and advancement.

Duties

  • Manage individual caseloads, handling defense from inception through trial.
  • Monitor and draft pleadings and discovery responses.
  • Analyze medical, workers' compensation, and employment records.
  • Develop strategies for depositions of party and non-party witnesses.
  • Coordinate with liability and damages experts.
  • Draft discovery and dispositive motions.
  • Analyze risk transfer opportunities and draft tender letters.
  • Appear for court conferences and motion arguments.
  • Prepare cases for mediations/arbitrations and assist in trial preparations.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare motions, including appellate briefs.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active license in good standing in New York.
  • 4-6 years of legal practice, with at least 3 years in New York General Liability, Labor Law, or Personal Injury defense.
  • Monitoring/Appellate experience preferred.
  • License in New Jersey or willingness to gain admission to other states preferred.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, ProLaw, Excel, and e-document management software preferred.
  • Prior remote work experience preferred.

Education

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license in good standing in New York.
