Job Overview
A Santa Cruz-based law firm is seeking a Foreign Legal Consultant to provide legal guidance on Mexican law in the context of cross-border matters. This role involves advising U.S.-based attorneys and clients on issues involving international legal transactions, inheritance, taxation, business operations, and legal claims related to Mexico. Ideal for a licensed attorney with a background in Mexican law and experience in international legal matters, this position plays a key role in facilitating complex legal interactions between the U.S. and Mexico.

Location

Duties

  • Advise American lawyers and clients on the application of Mexican law in cross-border contexts

  • Provide legal guidance related to U.S.–Mexico international transactions, legal settlements, and insurance claims

  • Counsel clients on inheritance, gifts, investments, acquisitions, and business operations in Mexico

  • Interpret and explain the impact of Mexican tax and commercial laws on U.S.-based clients

  • Assist with legal compliance and strategic planning for individuals and businesses engaging with Mexican legal systems

Requirements

  • Minimum of 24 months of legal experience, specifically in international transactions, Mexican taxation, and inheritance law

  • Experience advising on cross-border legal matters between the U.S. and Mexico

  • Strong communication skills for both legal and client-focused environments

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), Licenciado en Derecho, or equivalent degree in Law

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Mexico (required)

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Mexican civil, commercial, tax, and inheritance laws

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal)

  • Ability to analyze and apply foreign legal systems in U.S. legal contexts

  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
