Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Trusts and Estates/Elder Law Associate Attorney in Lake Success, NY. This role involves supporting and expanding the estate planning and elder law practice, offering hands-on training, mentorship, and significant client interaction. The associate will work closely with senior attorneys, developing skills in both planning and litigation-related work.

Duties

  • Shadow partner-level attorneys in elder law, special needs planning, estate planning, estate administration, and guardianships.
  • Assist senior attorneys with estate litigation and related matters.
  • Prepare estate planning documents, including wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and various trusts.
  • Support Medicaid planning, applications, and asset protection strategies.
  • Assist with matters involving adults and children with disabilities, seniors, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Provide support on Surrogate's Court filings, litigation preparation, and case management.
  • Engage in both planning and litigation tasks as needed.
  • Take on more independent work as skills develop.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in New York.
  • Two years of relevant experience preferred, or a newly admitted attorney with exceptional potential.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid eligibility, trust funding, and planning for individuals with special needs.
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to approach legal planning with empathy and clarity.
  • Interest or experience in alternative dispute resolution is a plus.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in New York.
