Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated mid-level IP Patent Associate with a solid background in patent law to join their team in Madison, NJ. The ideal candidate will have experience in patent litigation, prosecution, client counseling, licensing, and portfolio management. Candidates with significant experience in one area and a willingness to learn more about other types of patent work are encouraged to apply.

Duties

  • Handle all aspects of patent litigation in federal district courts and appeals at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
  • Manage post-grant proceedings such as ex parte reexaminations and inter partes review proceedings.
  • Supervise and guide patent agents in prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with partners and clients to develop litigation strategies and manage litigation processes.
  • Work directly with clients on patent matters, including complex IP strategy and risk management.
  • Stay current on developments in patent law and emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-6 years of law firm experience; more experienced candidates are welcome.
  • Admitted to practice before at least one state court and the USPTO.
  • Strong command of federal patent litigation rules, PTAB proceedings, and patent examination.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Top academic credentials and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with other IP matters is a plus.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice before the USPTO.

  • Comfort with handling multiple matters for multiple clients simultaneously.
