Job Overview
A law firm seeks a midlevel associate attorney to join its Environment, Energy & Resources practice group in San Diego, CA. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of digital infrastructure and energy transition, focusing on power strategies and regulatory frameworks.

Duties

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
  • Advise on electric market design issues within RTOs/ISOs, including capacity market mechanisms and interconnection policies.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Counsel clients on energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy procurement strategies.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years of experience in energy law, with regulatory and transactional experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Power Act and power market mechanics.
  • Ability to draft bespoke energy contracts.
  • Must be admitted to practice or eligible to waive into the jurisdiction of the office location.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
