A law firm seeks a junior-level associate to join its Tax-Exempt Organizations practice in New York City. This role involves working on nonprofit governance, tax-exempt compliance, and complex transactions, offering a chance to develop expertise in nonprofit legal frameworks.

Duties

  • Advise nonprofit organizations on governance, tax-exempt status, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support nonprofit transactions, restructurings, and mergers involving tax-exempt entities.
  • Draft governance documents, policies, and transactional materials.
  • Assist with endowment management and investment review for nonprofit clients.
  • Conduct legal research related to nonprofit and tax-exempt organization issues.
  • Participate in client communications and manage ongoing client matters.
  • Support business development and client service initiatives.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
  • Admission to the New York Bar or eligibility to become admitted.
  • 1-3 years of relevant legal experience, ideally involving nonprofit organizations or tax-exempt entities.
  • Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented practice.
