The small San Francisco office of this firm, one of the oldest and largest law firms in the world, focuses on corporate law. In particular, the corporate practice concentrates on three areas: corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and private finance. The office represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including: technology and e-commerce, healthcare, and commercial and investment banking. The firm generally looks for attorneys who are well-rounded and have a sense of humor and seems to prefer top students from second-tier law schools over mediocre students from top schools. Salaries are competitive, and associates describe the firms formal training programs as phenomenal. One associate reports that the firm hires a tremendous amount of lateral attorneys.
