Job Overview
A law firm seeks a Tax Attorney specializing in nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations in Durham, NC. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in this field and will work at the Senior Associate, Senior Counsel, or Junior Partner level, depending on experience and client development capabilities.

Duties

• Advise clients on Section 501(c) status and compliance.
• Provide guidance on IRS filings, including Form 1023 and Form 990.
• Counsel on UBTI, private foundation rules, and intermediate sanctions.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and joint ventures.
• Assist clients in IRS audits and disputes.
• Advise boards on governance and fiduciary duties.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• At least five years of relevant experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
