Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Maritime Attorney in New York City to join their expanding team. The ideal candidate will have experience or interest in Admiralty and Maritime law and Transportation law, with at least one year of litigation experience. The role offers significant responsibility, client exposure, and professional development opportunities.

Duties

  • Manage a litigation caseload from inception through resolution
  • Draft and respond to written discovery
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Prepare, draft, and argue motions
  • Participate in court appearances, status conferences, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Develop case strategy and manage day-to-day litigation responsibilities
  • Communicate directly with clients, providing strategic counsel and regular updates
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices and practice groups
  • Assist with trial preparation and other high-stakes litigation activities

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in New York and New Jersey required
  • 1+ years of defense litigation experience, maritime law and transportation law experience preferred
  • Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to assume increasing responsibility

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey

Skills

  • Experience handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances
  • Experience managing matters independently
