Job Overview

A distinguished law firm is seeking a mid-level associate to junior partner to join its expanding Private Wealth and National Trust practice within the Business Planning and Tax section. This role involves advising local, national, and international clients on complex trust and estate matters, including advanced federal estate and gift tax planning and institutional trustee representation.

Location

  • Wilmington, Delaware

Duties

  • Advise clients on federal estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning

  • Represent institutional trustees on matters such as trust decantings, mergers, and non-judicial modifications

  • Collaborate on complex private wealth planning strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families

  • Handle trust administration matters, including interaction with courts, beneficiaries, and fiduciaries

  • Draft and review trust instruments, estate planning documents, and related transactional agreements

  • Stay current with developments in state, federal, and international estate planning laws

  • Contribute to client development and firm growth initiatives within the practice group

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in trusts and estates law

  • Prior experience working with institutional trustees preferred

  • Background in trust restructuring, decanting, and related modifications is highly desirable

  • Willingness to take the Delaware Bar Exam (if not already admitted in Delaware)

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the Delaware State Bar preferred, or eligibility and willingness to sit for the Delaware Bar Exam

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of federal estate and gift tax laws

  • Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical abilities

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage complex matters with professionalism and precision

  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a high-performing team
