Job Overview

A respected law firm with a strong presence across California is seeking a Municipal Law Associate Attorney to join its team in Ontario, CA. This position offers an opportunity to work on a wide variety of complex and high-impact legal matters affecting public agencies. The ideal candidate will bring experience in municipal transactional law and public agency advisory services, with a particular focus on land use, governance, public safety, and regulatory compliance. This is a hybrid role, offering both in-office and remote work flexibility.

Duties

  • Draft ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents related to municipal governance

  • Advise public agency clients on open meeting laws (e.g., Brown Act), conflicts of interest, free speech issues, and election law

  • Provide legal guidance on land use, zoning, and planning matters

  • Attend and advise clients during public meetings, city council sessions, and administrative proceedings

  • Counsel clients on public safety issues, government transparency, and regulatory compliance

  • Interpret and apply relevant state and federal laws to the operations of municipalities and special districts

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience practicing municipal transactional law

  • Demonstrated experience handling public meetings and providing on-the-spot legal guidance

  • Familiarity with legal issues commonly faced by public agencies

  • Strong background in advising on land use, open government, and regulatory frameworks

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar (in good standing)

Skills

  • Strong legal drafting and analytical skills

  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • High level of professionalism and sound legal judgment
